This boggles my mind.
The Triumph International lingerie maker has unveiled its latest 'advance' in Japan.
Ladies, take your battle for the environment a little closer to your heart with a solar-powered bra that can generate enough electric energy to charge a mobile phone or an iPod.
Lingerie maker Triumph International Japan Ltd unveiled its environmentally friendly, and green colored, "Solar Power Bra" on Wednesday in Tokyo which features a solar panel worn around the stomach.
The panel requires light to generate electricity and the concept bra will not be in stores anytime soon, said Triumph spokeswoman Yoshiko Masuda, as "people usually can not go outside without wearing clothes over it."
But it does send the message of how lingerie could possibly save the planet, Masuda said, adding that the bra should not be washed or sunned on a rainy day to avoid damaging it.
A bra that can't be washed? I can't see my lady friends being willing to wear that for very long.
I'm particularly fascinated by another comment:
Being eco-friendly is now fashionable in Japan, and the "Solar Energy Bra" follows the company's other green-themed undergarments that include a bra that turns into a reusable shopping bag and one that featured metal chopsticks to promote the use of reusable chopsticks.
A bra that turns into a shopping bag? Chopsticks in a bra? Ye Gods and little fishes . . .
I can imagine another stumbling-block to this contraption. As most ladies will attest, most men aren't particularly good at unfastening this sort of thing when the mood arises. Just how does Triumph expect men to cope with a bra that can deliver an electric shock at precisely the wrong moment?
This could be fun . . .

Disturbing, but by golly it's entertaining!
I'm reminded of one of Benny Hill's routines, in which he leered at a girl with a very large chest and a very tiny waist and opined "Nothing grows in the shade".
The electric bra may work well enough in Japan, but not in Western countries. Solar cells won't generate in the shade.
Sorta surprised that no one has invented a bra that uses the bouncing movement to generate electricity.
Just imagine all of the bouncing energy that goes to waste when you've got two people working together... ;-}
