Balls of brass, or thick as a brick???

I can hardly believe the nerve (or is it stupidity?) of the person who stuck around to shoot this video of the huge tornado (currently estimated to have been at least a Category F4, and possibly a Category F5, on the Fujita scale) that hit Tuscaloosa in Alabama yesterday evening.

In his shoes, I'd have been putting the pedal to the metal and making tracks in the opposite direction as far as possible!

Too many people seem to think that, by looking through a viewfinder, they're watching TV and are just an observer.

Like you, I'd have left smoking tire tracks away from that monster.

One of the saddest videos of that sort is used by the National Weather Service in its spotter briefings as a "things we do NOT want to see." It was shot by a man who sent his family to the basement as a tornado cut through their neighborhood. His son yells for dad to hurry, but dad is filming the storm. The last thing on the clip is the butt end of a 2X4 flying straight at the camera.

The man survived, if only because the Lord truly does watch after animals, small children and idiots.

This is the first such clip I have ever watched, which, of course, is all some other "unique" person needs to know.

But when the fear did kick in, it hit HARD. Hopefully the people who study tornadoes will see something useful in it.
